Public Lecture “Opportunities and Challenges in Indonesian Social Political Economy post Covid-19”

Palembang – Sriwijaya University (Unsri) held a Public Lecturer initiated by the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Sriwijaya University on Tuesday (19/7) with Associate Professor Ferry Jie, Phd as Guest Lecture from Edith Cowan University Australia. This public lecture has the theme ‘Opportunities and Challenges in Indonesian Social Political Economy post Covid-19’ at Building of Prof. DJunaini Moekti UPT Bahasa, Bukit Besar Palembang. The public lecture was opened by the Vice Rector for Planning and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Said, M.Sc and the Dean of FISIP, Prof. Dr. Alfitri, M.Si and attended by Vice deans, several FISIP lecturers, Head of Language Institution, students of FISIP UNSRI and other participant who were present online through Zoom Cloud Meetings.

“Post-Covid conditions have created new habits that require us to adapt, especially in the social, economic and political sectors.” said Professor Ferry Jie. Furthermore, Professor Ferry Jie explained the importance of maximizing the elements of technology and skills in the post-Covid-19 period. However, several things such as technology readiness, security, standards, interoperability, data and change management, capacity building and culture are challenges that must be considered when involving technology in work. In addition, communication both face-to-face and through online media is also an important key to socializing various things to the public.

Data from the World Economic Forum Covid also states that when technology adoption increases, 50% of all employees need to improve their skills such as analytical thinking and innovation; active learning with strategies; complex problem solving; critical thinking skills; creativity, originality, and initiative; leadership and social influence; use of technology and supervision; technology design and programming; toughness, stress tolerance and flexibility. Mr. Ferry Jie also provides job-related information for political majors such as political scientist, public service manager, diplomat, political observer, consumer advocacy, policy maker, political risk analyst, public affairs consultant, social researcher and for some international relations majors such as health care manager, human rights defenders, intelligence officers, international development workers, local government workers, assistant politicians.

On the other hand, Professor Ferry Jie also said that “There are top 10 skills of 2025, the first is analytical thinking and Innovation, active learning and learning strategic, complex problem solving, critical thinking and analysis, creativity, originality and initiative, leadership and social influences, technology use, monitoring and controlling, technology design and programming, stress tolerance and flexibility, and the last one is reasoning, problem solving and ideation” (smk & cap)
